Re: Long time listener, first time caller

Update:
Wow! The quality I got after purging and installing the melt filter/nozzle is amazing. The color is true with a 2/3% mixture by volume and extrudes in my printer setup better than Octave filament. I took a side by side pic and nobody guessed right.....even with a worn nozzle and significant bed sway...even my wife approved! big_smile
I will add pics, but I'm wondering why I lost diameter consistency. After purging the MG94, I began a few runs with PA747 and then quality went from .02 +/- to .05+/- even after upping temps to 187c as Revolve3D mentioned in the DIY threads. Exact temp was not mentioned, but higher than in the Filastruder .pdf

I still stand by the Filastruder purchase and recommend it to others. Talk about self-sufficiency!

Re: Long time listener, first time caller

Hey Azerate,

I extrude PA 747 at about 191 with 2% by weight black colorant. You can try playing with the temps to get better diameter tolerance. Do you have a winder?

Thanks! I'll give it a go tonight.
No winder as of yet. I'm spooling elmoret style wink

Re: Long time listener, first time caller

Higher temps = more diameter variation. Also faster extrusion and smaller average diameter.

+/- 0.05 is still excellent, though.

Re: Long time listener, first time caller

Oh yeah! Don't get me wrong, I'm very very pleased with the quality. I'm just wondering why I jumped from .02 to .05
I understand MG94 and PA747 are different, but I just find it a bit odd that the diameter would jump so much. Either way, it is still useable and I have great print quality.

Sorry it took so long.

Spooled. This is awesome in person. A true matte black with such little reflection I can barely keep track of extrusion speed. The surface reflects as much light as heat shrink.

About .22lbs made a few hours ago.

Like I stated above, I have pretty bad bed sway and a worn nozzle I have been too lazy to change.
With that said, here is your plastic porn. smile

All printed with E3D v6 or Lite6 with Volcano and .6 nozzle.......and speed.
*Overkill Y bracket in from was printed with Octave ABS without a Hobb Goblin
*Enclosure riser (bottom, rear) was Octave ABS with Hobb Goblin. Both were at .3951 height
*Lawsy carriage parts (top) were printed yesterday with PA747 from a Filastruder

These are far from my best quality prints, but again, when holding the parts, the quality of speaks for itself.
And as a side note: Revolve3d.com claims to have pellets pre-dried and ready for extrusion......this is a solid and accurate statement! If they had a little more variety (not just PA747/4043D PLA) I would be sold for life on their stock. Stellar work.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Please, kiddies.....be certain you have let you Filastruder sit at temp long enough.
Last week I lost track of time and thought I had it sitting at 185c for 20 minutes. After turning the motor on, the middle assembly rotated and snapped itself off of the wooden base. Confused, I looked at my phone and it had only been 7 minutes. And no, I was not drunk. lol
No pics, just an admission of guilt and a warning. After all, it's nothing a few drilled holes and screws can't fix! big_smile

Re: Long time listener, first time caller

Bumping this thread to update my progress...

I've owned my Filastruder for just under a year, pushed out maybe 50lbs horizontally with no modifications made aside from fully insulating the barrel. But I had random kinks and ramen...sometimes it would occur after 30g, sometimes after 1300g.
After a few weeks of being down to prepare for vertical extrusion with a Filawinder, I have zero problems! No more ramen, and the only kinks I get are while a load the winder, but it does not have any negative effect to winding, extruding, or printing. I seem to have gained extrusion speed by 3" per minute, the Filawinder keeps tolerances tight (.02mm+/- with PA747), and colorants blend much better.
I highly recommend doing this
