Topic: proper idler tension?

What is the correct amount of idler tension I should use on a reprap style printer? I have a smartone 200 printer.

Tight enough to feed. There is no golden rule and it may change with different filaments.

If you can see the filament after the motor but before the hotend you just want to be able to see teeth marks in it but it should not be majorly deformed or anything,.

Yup, agreed. I find I can tolerate a wide range of filament tensions without adverse impact on feed reliability or rate (steps-per-mm).
