When it is the time to materialize some words, I prefer to use the Windows "Stencil" font.

I think any font will work, but some work better than others.  I use Arial Black mostly but arial bold works.  I've also done cursive fonts that have worked fine as well.  All mine are embossed up or cavities, not sure if that's what you mean when you say extruded hole.

I'd like to see some pics as well. I just designed something using the font from the Playstation 3, which is also the Spiderman Font. I'll post pics after it's printed.
