Topic: Mixture of materials

Hi

We are a group of engineering students who are doing a project on plastic-exstrusion. The goal is to extrude filament that can be used in a 3D-printer.  Does anyone in here have some advice on what materials to use, and maybe where to buy them. We already have some PLA, but we are thinking of getting some ABS aswell. Anything else that would be good to get for our filament?

Best Regards

+ 1 on reading the posts in the filasruder section.

The goal is to extrude filament that can be used in a 3D-printer.

There are quite a few companies that offer 3D printing filament.

There are many powdered additives to PLA to give various textures and properties.
wood fill
bamboo fill
ceramic fill
bronze
brass
copper
stainless steel
magnetic iron
carbon fiber
I expect more to come

As far as polymers
ABS  and PLA are the big 2
But folks are using
nylon
elastomers like nina flex
HIPS
Peek
Be careful as some plastics will gass of toxic fumes.

Colorfab out of Holland offers some interesting highperformace polymers in pellet form for those who want to extrude there own.
