Topic: Anyone make a x-axis carriage eplacement file? Mine broke

Ello,

I was shipping my printer to school, and I guess they bounced it around a lot [Seriously, a lot- it was pretty well packed]. The pieces connecting the pulley to the supports opposite of the NEMA14 motor, and the delron part connected to the support, broke.

I think I can glue it back, but I don't know how many prints I'll get before it breaks again. I noticed it's kinda pretty poorly designed; it just broke on some 6mm^2 of surface area.

Has anyone made a replacement file for the part of the assembly opposite of the NEMA14 x-axis rods?  Have I sufficiently articulated what I mean?

I'll also contact solidoodle, but I think they want $90 and only sell the whole carriage, when I really don't need to replace the whole thing.

You have to replace the whole thing, the rods are glued in.

The new carriage is better designed, with reinforcements. They gave me one for free, not sure what their current policy is.

Mine was broken (nearly in 2 pieces) when it arrived from SD, and I used superglue and a clamp overnight, it's still going strong so I would give acetone weld or superglue a try unless it's damaged beyond repair.

Someone posted a replacement, you will just have to check back a couple pages or the wiki might have the file link as well..

I think that's for the center sliding piece...

Geez, Thanks. I never looked closely enough.  I was only looking at the linear supports, but you're right that along the x-axis those bars seem glued in.

Hmm, I haven't been able to find it on either thingiverse or the wiki. Please let me know if you see it anywhere. Eventually if everything fails it still looks like I could break the part from the glued rods, remove the linear rails that are just hose clamped, and clean then replace the piece.

Well, hey! That's encouraging. Maybe mine will last longer than I expected. I also am trying to slightly reinforce it, and maybe can print out some small bits to reinforce it.   It is right now holding itself up, after some awkward gluing and rubber band usage to simulate clamps, but I haven't got the rest of the system together to test printing (really?? I forgot to pack the 3 prong AC cable. I'm a fool sometimes. Going to a scrap store tomorrow and might find one anyway)

http://www.soliforum.com/topic/699/crashed-extruder/ is the replacement. I used it to make the dual extruder template so the dimensions are correct.

Is that design from Kyle similar to the look of your carriage?  I am working on my Bowden dual mount and the new carriage assembly I got looks nothing like this.

Thanks for finding that Rondavouz, I couldn't locate it anywhere.  I have added that link to the wiki mods page.
