Topic: New print using new filament and hot end
Here is a new print I did a couple of weeks ago. What make this different than other prints is that I'm using some new brand filament, and a recently installed all metal hot end.
As most of you know by now, Radio Shack is closing all its stores, and one of the nearby stores had quite a bit of filament, for only $15.00/roll, so I bought a bunch of it. This is the white ABS. I also bought some black, blue and red. In all, I bought 8 rolls. So far, it doesn't look too bad. I think I have to figure out the temps of this a bit better.
The other variable is the new all metal hot end I posted about here. So far I printed about 1/3 of a roll with this print head. Some orange and neon green stuff ( I used it to print my Atlas 3D scanner), and this Radio Shack stuff.
Anyway, I found a pretty cool 3D Studio Max model of Kyle Katarn. For those that don't know who that is, Kyle Katarn is one of the characters in the Expanded Star Wars Universe. He started off a Rebel Alliance mercenary, and eventually became a Jedi. He is a playable character in many of the Star Wars Jedi Knight video games.
The 3D model looked great, and required a bit of work to make it printable, but I think the results are pretty good. This just may be another model I'll consider painting.
The print is 8" tall, so I ended up cutting it in half to print it. If you look close, you can see the seam just under the belt (I didn't clean it up yet). Additionally, I printed the head separately too, because I wanted to get the hair right, so I printed the head laying down.
