Topic: filament twisting and tangling? (pics)

Greetings,
I recently bought a roll of Solidoodle brand filament but have run into a lot of problems. I have yet to get a successful print because the filament will tangle and throw off the printing..
This is my third roll of Solidoodle brand filament and never ran into this problem. Only difference I see is this roll is the wider, shorter roll instead of my usual longer roll that I got.

So yeah the problem is that for some reason the filament becomes more twisted over time and causes it to tangle and bird nest up and prevents printing. I have to kill the job and counter twist the spool to get rid of the tangle but just happens about an hour into printing again.

Is this normal for these kinds of spools?

I bought this from bestbuy. My other spools actually had a solidoodle sticker on it but this spool does not. Does all solidoodle products have their sticker on it?

Is there any resistance from the spool holder?  There should be a slight drag when unrolling filament or else the spool will unwind too much and well...instant birdnest.  Try adding a bit of soft material between the spool and axle to promote friction.

Hope this helps

Same problem with just about any new roll. The problem is the filament reaches the side of the roll and spills over causing the tangle. I've seen one guy run a coat hanger wire with a Twist so a hole forms in the center then he atached it to either side of the holder and ran the filament though the opening just  created, the idea is to keep the filament rolling from the center. I haven't tried it yet but looks promising.
