Topic: Bed stays heated, even when printer is off

Even when I tell SoliPrint to cool the printer, it doesn't. Even after the printer is turned off using the top button, the bed stays hot to the touch even hours later.

Anyone else having this issue?

EDIT: To clarify, ONLY THE BED stays heated, not the extruder. And the bed heats up when plugged in even before turning on the printer.

I had that issue, noticed the heating resistor in the aluminum block was loose, re-centered the resistor, tightened the set screw, and issue has not re-occurred.  Set screw is on bottom of block, also check thermistor set screw...

If you unplug the printer completely (from your computer and wall outlet) and then plug it back in, will it heat everything without turning on the power button?

Skyblue, can you clarify where these items are, where the aluminum block is?

YES, I just tested. I plugged it in without turning it on, and the bed started to get hot. Any ideas what I can do?

You can contact SD and start a ticket with them.  There is nothing safe or normal about what you are experiencing.

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL

Re: Bed stays heated, even when printer is off

Sounds like a failed FET to me.

FET is probably good.  Haven't looked at the circuit, but perhaps a bad pull down resistor at the gate?  I wonder if the controller output is pulling it up.  Does the temperature stabilize at the set temperature?  Anyway, definitely should contact SD.  Hopefully they'll be prompt.

I have contacted SD and await a reply

I edited my post. The extruder is actually fine. It's the bed which is the issue.

What makes you think the FET is fine? Pull down resistors don't typically just fail. Underrated or counterfeit FETs (remember this was assembled in China with little to no QC) can definitely fail on. FETs generally fail on, not open.

Re: Bed stays heated, even when printer is off

it's definitely a burned up MOSFET. if the resistor failed I would expect the circuit to be open, not closed. regardless, i have never seen a pulldown/pullup resistor fail that wasn't my fault.

Re: Bed stays heated, even when printer is off

If the FET is the issue, is there an easy fix? Does SD need to send me a new mobo? Can I adjust anything?

Re: Bed stays heated, even when printer is off

I had exactly the same problem, so this doesn't look like an isolated problem.   Solidoodle elected to RMA the entire unit instead of trying to send parts.   Took a month to get the RMA, but it's their problem to fix now.

That's disappointing. Everything else is now working fine. Did you ask for parts? Are they sending a different unit, or did you get a refund?
