Topic: Filament "clicking" on larger print areas

Sometimes when I am on a large print section, or just feeding 25+mm of filament through the heated extruder, the filament skips or "clicks".  It is like too much filament is trying to get fed at one time, so the gear that feeds the filament skips a bit.

Is this something to be concerned about, or is that just normal sometimes?

The sound drives me crazy because I am not sure if it is okay or not.

I've tried tightening and/or loosening the adjustment screw that puts tension onto the extruder gear, but that has not helped.

Should I make adjustments elsewhere?

Thanks!

Re: Filament "clicking" on larger print areas

What color is the filament, this seems like the problem that some people were having with a batch of black filament from solidoodle.  I remember this being talked about and it had something to do with increasing the extruder temp and pressure on the tensioner.  I tried to find the thread but I came up empty.  I could have sworn it was a post from solidoodle support.  Maybe someone else remembers where the thread was.

Over time the amount of filament dust from these skipped clicks add up and smooth out the filament drive wheel.

not really a worry, (try a slower speed or hotter temp to fix)

but if this happens a lot it can get progressively worse as the crap builds up in the extruder

Easy enough to clean out the extruder with a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner
