Topic: Fixed jamming and print quality issue by calibrating extruder steps/mm
Like most of you, getting my Press up and running has been a brutal experience. The set screw for the extruder drive screw wasn't connected, the cable bundle was binding, and the Press software was baffling. Thanks to some past experience with printer tweaking, and lots of ideas from this forum, I seem to have my printer running decently.
One most infuriating issues was that the extruder would randomly jam, and the print quality was never great. After reading on the forum, I found buried in one post the idea of recalibrating the extruder steps per mm. The link for calibration is here: instructables.com/id/How-to-calibrate-the-Extruder-on-your-3d-Printer/?ALLSTEPS
In reading through several posts, it seems like most Press printers came from the factory set with 138 steps / mm. After running the calibration, I found that mine should be set at 100 steps / mm. It seems like this is what everybody else is finding, too. After changing it, and switching to Repetier Host 1.0.6 for printing, my prints are beautiful.
Note, if you're running Repetier Host, you need to insert a G29 command after the G28 command. This will tell Repetier host to run the auto bed leveling routine.
