Topic: No 3D view in Soliprint?

I am running a Dell D630 laptop (core 2 duo 2.0 with 4gb ddr2 ram) on the Press and am unable to view the preview screen.  This is the same computer I use to preview client files for my Projet 660 Pro and it works just fine, albeit a bit sluggish.  Is there any way to remedy this issue as I would like to see what I am placing on the print bed?  I just updated everything windows related, drivers, and even installed a new video driver and am still not able to see anything.

I was running in a VM, and could not view the 3d view without "graphics acceleration".  I believe it requires OpenGL, as I had a similar issue with OpenScad, but that's just a guess.

Seriously Open GL... Ugh.. that is entirely unnecessary for something like this.  I can view million+poly full color models on this machine without issues and without Solidoodle specifying what is needed to run the program I was left dead n the water.  This machine can run Open GL but it is not good at all, with that being said though, it does not even attempt.

Any idea on a solution that does not involve me buying a new computer as it seems fairly pointless to buy a new computer for such an inexpensive device.  I mean, I can run a $70K-ish printer off this laptop, why can't I run a $600 one???  Seems a bit ridiculous to me..

You can probably use Repetier Host instead of Soliprint.  It does a better job anyway...  Check some other threads here for more info.

Tried and got an error saying it was out of video memory, which is odd considering the machine was running nothing else and had nothing loaded.  I did download the new version though.  This is my first experience in the desktop printers with actual settings you can change without voiding a warranty worth more than my car..  I have been reading some of the threads on it and am hoping someone will just come out with settings that you need to have to run well so I can just copy pasta and print.  I know that sounds lazy, but my time to work with the machine is limited and I cannot afford to spend hours upon hours working on settings, you know?

I will continue to read into them though, but currently it does seem that the version of repetier I have has a similar issue.

Ok sweet got repeteir to work! But the heater profiles are not right.when I go to heat the printer it thinks it heating, but its actually not. I prefer repetier definitely though! So many options!

Are you running repeteir?

Re: No 3D view in Soliprint?

I had the same issue. It is definitely the video card driver and support for opengl. Every time I tried to update my driver windows told me I was already using the best driver. Here's how I got mine working:

1. Forced the uninstall of the Microsoft driver from device manager.
2. Browsed to the folder of the newest driver I downloaded and extracted from AMD.
3. Found the .INF, right-click, chose install.
4. Back to device manager, refresh for hardware changes, right click video card, choose properties.
5. Driver tab, update driver button, Browse my computer, "Let me pick from a list".
6. Was able to now choose the latest AMD driver.

I grabbed a desktop and it had the same issue, needs the opengl driver. The Intel laptop though even after the driver update was not having any of it. I'm a bit shocked honestly, but maybe that's a growing pain thing?

EDIT:  tried a third desktop with a weedly little graphics card and it worked.. Not happy, but that is what needs to be done I guess...
