Topic: faulty Z probe

Does anyone have a problem with the z probe.  IT has not wanted to come down at all then after wiggeling it randomly started working.  Just makes me nervous because without the probe it crashes the print head.  Also it appears that in repetier host it cannot doi the bed map that the solidoodle does.  It just treats the bed probe like a regular limit switch.  Can this be confirmed?

Re: faulty Z probe

You can manually extend it using the tab on the left and I found that if you home the x, y, and z axis under printer config it will stop crashing. This is probably not the best solution, but it works for now...

Just make your sure you home the x, and y before the z otherwise it won't work.

Re: faulty Z probe

The main problem I have seen is the wiring getting in the way so the Z "probe" does not raise and lower.
The switch moves up and down by moving to the far left. There in the left side plastic frame are 2 ramps, one up and one down. The extruder needs to move to the far left and then move forward or backward to engage the switch's tab with these ramps. If the wiring gets in the way and stops it from moving completely to the left the switch just remains in whatever position it was in. I have done a couple things to move the wiring around since it also hung up on the Y axis when homing. For the time being I am still watching at the beginning of the print and making sure the wires don't get in the way. As long as the print is smaller once the initial homing/Z height settings are done it is no longer an issue. I will be looking at better solutions so I can print side to side without constant monitoring.
I have only used the SoliPrint software. I suspect it is only mapped using this. I believe it takes readings and then as the print proceeds it uses these to slightly raise and lower the platform to adjust for variations in the platform height. Thus there is no need to level the platform.
I suspect I will eventually need to use a different software or figure out where the configuration parameters are set in SoliPrint for some of the more detailed settings like fill %, how many walls to print, how many solid layers on start, etc.
