Topic: Press Going on Ebay This Weekend!

I feel I am more than qualified to review this poorly designed printer. I have had 3 printers over the years, an old RepRap unit I buil,t a Makergear Mosaic, and lastly a Makergear M2. I Also have sold over 7000 rolls of filament on ebay and amazon and my old onlinefilament web site. Have taken many email's from people solving extruder issues mainly. So here is my quick review.

#1 The top of the extruder  is to close to the bottom of the top cover! No real fix for this other than to print with the cover open.

#2 The Extruder wires can drop to low and cause problems, fixable but not a great design.

#3 My extruder drive gear set screw was so loose I could pull the extruder gear off with my fingers, simple fix but how the heck did this pass QC when no filament would extrude?  Fixable but horrible QC.

#4 My extruder will not extrude without the stepper motor skipping a step every few seconds, thats the bump bump noise many people hear. I have tried PLA and  ABS 2-3 rolls each extruder gear is clean, extruder is at temp, verified with an IR thermometer, from 220c to 250c makes no difference. Extruder motor simply doesn't have the power to push the filament down. May have a faulty unit but I see no real fix for this as Solidoodle wont respond to any emails been 3 days. I could cut the tension spring it seems way to tight but I don't want to mess with it.

#5 Whats with the cheapest piece of glass I have ever seen, it's so thin it's just a matter of time till a print sticks and you break it removing the print. People new to 3D printers have no idea how bad a print can stick.

#6 The Soliprint software, I would call it BETA software at best, to many issues to write about.

#7 They say it will print PLA, but without a cooling fan at the extruder tip I will never print PLA with good results.
I DID know this when I bought it, just bad marketing from Solidoodle, everyone knows PLA needs a cooling fan.

I did manage to print out 3 items but they looked really bad compared to my last 3 printers. It's just not worth the time or trouble deal with. To bad I wanted this unit to work.

Think I will build a delta 3D Printer next, they look interesting.

Good luck everyone.

That's a tension issue. Not a step skip. There is not enough force involved to skip that motor unless the VREF is really off, and this is entirely possible, by the way, but I doubt it. Lots of people have been solving this. What makes your particular situation unique and how can we help?

Re: Press Going on Ebay This Weekend!

im not to sure how to solve it, the other issue im having is the power supply is getting red hot, and also the printer will connect with soliprint and then disconnect as soon as i start heating the printer up. i can still move all the axis's but it does not allow me to monitor the heat levels. Getting the printer to be seen in soliprint even with drivers installed is another issue. i can see the device in device manager under the LTP / Com ports but the software wont see it.

Re: Press Going on Ebay This Weekend!

It sounds like your power supply is DOA. Find a replacement or contact Solidoodle. I would find a 3rd party replacement, but that's just me.

Thanks Jago!

No problem. Just make sure whatever replacement you use if you choose not to go with SD is rated the same. I'd guess 150 watts, minimum.

Pictures? If you're willing, anything can be spliced... But let's not get carried away just yet.

Title says the printer is going on eBay.  How much do you want for it?

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

This topic really should be in the Buy Sell Trade section.  I'll give you some time as I can tell you really haven't made that decision yet.  For now I'm moving it to the Press section.
