Topic: Prints not sticking - temp settings?

I bought my Davinci Duo about 10 days ago. I was able to immediately get reasonable prints using the XYZ Filament and the glue stick method. Two days in I purchased Simplify3D 2.2 to avoid dealing with XYZWare and have been very happy with it. After a week and about 20 prints, I only had one instance where a print had issues, and that was a with a multicolor print that released from the base and started knocking around. Even then I was able to salvage the other objects I'd ganged up.

Two days ago I replaced the stock firmware with Repetier 0.92 for DaVinci. Since then, I've been unable to get a single clean print - nothing will adhere to the bed. Note that I'm using the same cartridges and glue sticks that produced successful prints over the last week. I'm also using the same version of Simplify3D. The only thing that's changed is the firmware. I did bed calibration as per instructions in this forum, and have done it multiple times since.

I've tried running bed temp from 80 to 110, extruder temps from 200 - 235, and I've lowered print speed from default 1800 mm/min to 1500. Nothing works so far. Prior to the firmware change I often had to use a razor blade and some pressure to get pieces to release from the bed. Now I can't get anything to stick.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Am I better off switching back to stock firmware and using a cartridge resetter? Or do folks have actual success using Repetier firmware on a duo? If so, can someone share the settings they use, either in Simplify3D or Repetier Host? If I can get one successful print to build on I can take it from there.

What I do is play with the bed height. while it is printing adjust it till you get the adhesion you like and that the first layer looks the way you want. also when I was using abs the best results for bed adhesion were using the elmers purple glue stick. I would coat the bed completely and I would not wipe off the glue after a print I would just remove the print and re-cover with the glue stick. this works really well . I would run your temps at 230 for the extruder and 100 for the print bed and I have been getting great results with first layer heights at .25mm . I just adjusted it till it looked nice while printing. and also I am running simplify3d and right now my print speeds are at 1200 but another feature you need to really play with is the extruder multiplier!! this will adjust the flow-rate of the extruder and when mine is too low I will also have bad adhesion of the first layer

Re: Prints not sticking - temp settings?

I just wanted to put this out there. If you need to play with the extrusion multiplier then your E-steps are not calibrated correctly. E-steps refers to an internal setting in the firmware for the steps per mm on your extruder. You can test it by marking the filament a certain measurement like 10mm from the input of the extruder. Then once the unit is at full temp do a feed of 10mm and see if the line is now right at the input, pat it, or still not there yet. Based on the fact you need to manipulate the multiplier I am betting your line will fall short of being at the input. You will need to change the steps per mm to get the feed rate proper. Unfortunately this is not possible with stock firmware. So you are only left with multiplier to compensate.

I just bring this up to let you know if you are on stock and you are having to do this then your machine is/was not calibrated properly.

just curious on how I can adjust the steps per millimeter and where to get to the settings because I need to adjust my y axis to help me get better circle my machine is nice and tight so I know its my steps.per millimeter
