Topic: Velleman K8200 printer?

I'm looking to get my first printer, was tempted by a Davinci 1.0 but I think I like the open sourced Velleman K8200 a little better. I don't mind building kits so the reduced shipping would be nice, seems to have a lot of mods available so I can grow it to something better as my knowledge and skill increases. From what I read this is just a different packaging of a Reprap printer with the Repetier software.

So I guess in short I'd like to know if this is something I should get, or something I should pass on for another printer. One thing I want to be able to do is print with things like Ninjaflex and HDPE. I know these will both require some upgrades to the K8200, but I don't think it is possible to do these with something like a Davinci unless they want to make filament "cartridges" for their printers.

Also looking at getting a Filastruder kit once I get down the road a little.

Re: Velleman K8200 printer?

I've haven't seen any prints from the Velleman, but a local electronics distributor has one set up in their store.  I've perused it a bit, and it looks pretty low-rent.

I have the feeling that, even in the unlikely event you were able to produce good results, you'd quickly outgrow it.

The guy I usually interact with there, said that only one of them had got it to work, and as I said, I didn't see any of the results.
