Topic: DA Vinci 2.0 extruder heads different heights

Hello everyone, I am new to 3d printing and new to the forum but am a machinist and have always followed 3d printing. Here's my issue, I have about 60hrs worth of printing on my 2.0 and have loved it but I have started realizing its limitations in terms of the not so adjustable software and the filament issue. I have gone and printed the bearing supports and installed them and went through all the belts and tightened them to get the circles somewhat good and have calibrated my table many times and have settled on the manual method which I know is perfectly level I have also installed a buildtak sheet which I really like. but I have noticed when I print with head 2 today it prints the first layer and the part is a little jet from thingiverse for my son and its big enough where head one goes over the printed surface while head 2 is printing. which its supposed to obviously but the problem is head 1 is colliding with the printed layer and pushing the bed down while head 2 is printing . this causes some weird prints and affects adhesion on the first layer. I then cancelled the print and re-checked my bed to make sure it was still level on all corners and it was but then I took a closer look and saw that head 1 sits lower than head 2 by about .1-.15 maybe .2mm??? my thought is since head 2 is sitting higher that would make the layers thicker than they should be and head1 has no way to avoid the printed material. my question is how can I fix this issue?? also how do I remove the extruders on the da vinci 2.0 so I can try and alter the heights?? is there a fix for this at all? I am looking to get this fixed asap as my xyzerocart will be here tomorrow and my bridge nylon will also be here to play with but don't want to waste material because of this. any help would be great thanks.

Maybe you can attach some photos to the post so we can see what's happening please?.  The extruder mount might be bent/messed with, so check to see if any sort of damage is showing, as the shipping may have caused the problem and it's just now showing.

Not much else I can think of as I am just starting out too, hope you get the problem resolved smile

Re: DA Vinci 2.0 extruder heads different heights

I am just curious how the nozzle attaches to the extruder. Is it a press fit?? If so then that could explain the issue as the bed has bumped it during homing a couple times. If that is the case then i can pull it down slightly?

I took my 2.0 carriage out the other day and see that the extruder is bolted on.  It seems the bolt can be loosened, extruder positioned, and then retightened.

Is it the bolt in the center towards the bottom on the backside by the fans?? Its hard for me to see when i looked last night. If it is only 1 bolt then i can see why it tilted to one side raising the nozzle

Re: DA Vinci 2.0 extruder heads different heights

so I fixed my issue. I took the fans off the back and the heatsink off of the 2nd extruder and loosened the lock nut that secures the extruder. then I pulled down on the nozzle and I cut some u shaped shims out of shim stock. .2mm worth and installed them between the flange and the mounting block right above the nozzle and now my heights are the same and now I don't have a issue with the other nozzle running into my printed material and ruining my prints.  on another note I cleaned my build tak print bed sheet with denatured alcohol and I was having trouble with the first layer sticking right after I did that so I removed the attempted print and covered the surface with a coat of purple glue stick from Elmer's and and I am an hr into a print with a large surface in contact with the bed that would normally curl or warp with the red xyz filament but right now it is rock solid and my print looks great thus far.

Glad you fixed the issue! big_smile

I would use acetone to clean the bed off, but that's my preference

They say with the build tak sheet acetone is too strong

Re: DA Vinci 2.0 extruder heads different heights

Hi there,
just signed up to post this one.
My DaVince 2.0 Duo has exactly the same problem,
different nozzle hights.
For the first few weeks and monts i didn't notice because i was busy printing and flashing Repetier Host,
but after 5-6 months or so i discovered the same problem you did.
Asking the reseller, he told me it must be like that (w/ offset)
IMOP this is complete bs....
Meanwhile (since one year or so) i can only use the left extruder because the other one is clogged and any repairs/cleanings werent succesful... If i ever get them both in working condition again, i may have to shim them as well.
Thanks for your post, it just confirmed my opinion, which is, that xyz has some kind of systemic problem.

Greetings from Germany, stay healthy smile
