Topic: Printer dead?

My Davinci light started to flicker and then went off. The display now reads solid bars across the screen and nothing works. Did I kill it somehow?
It was just sitting there when it happened.
Please tell me there is a reset or a fuse somewhere that fixes everything.

Re: Printer dead?

Sounds like your firmware may be toast if it powers but all you have is solid lines. The only thing you could is take the back off. Then use a voltage meter and confirm power. The power goes into the board on the black and white connectors on the main board. With power off unplug both connectors. Between the yellow and black wires you should have 12 volts are close to it. The red to black wites should be 5 volts and the most important one for this printer is orange wire that should measure around 3.3 volts between it and one of the black wires. If any of these voltages are off by more than two your power supply could be bad. If they are all good then just let it sit powered down for about an hour and then see if it starts up normal. Might have just been a surge that confused the logic.

But most likely firmware corrupted, or power supply dead or dieing.

Re: Printer dead?

It is very strange. The LCD seems to have power but doesn't light up and the display is two solid bars across it. The interior light also doesn't light up so basically nothing works.

Re: Printer dead?

Looks like I have proper voltages up to the board so the power supply is ok. Something's seriously wrong.

Sounds like your firmware may have bit the dust. There are threads that show you how to unbrick it meaning installing the factory firmware again and there are threads that show you how to jailbreak it so you can use any brand filament by installing the Repetier firmware.

Re: Printer dead?

What concerns me it that it bricked its self. Are the lights controlled by the firmware?

Re: Printer dead?

I went over all the resistors and they are all good. I don't see any hot spots anywhere. I see from searching there are a couple of different versions of this board. My board seems to be the latest version. Anyone know of some one that can repair this board or supply a new or used board?

http://www.wctek.com/shop/files/XYZDowngrader.zip

Download that file.

It should have instructions and an executable to setup your XYZ Da Vinci 1.0 with firmware version J.

You have the OLDER revision of the main PCB, as it has the stepper drivers on seperate PCB's as opposed to being integrated to the main PCB like the newer revisions.

Yours also has the reset jumpers, which the newer boards do not.

Re: Printer dead?

I got revision J back on the machine but now my light flashes on and off and the buzzer beeps on and off. LCD still has two solid bars on it.

I moved my SD card to an external location using a ribbon cable adapter. I once forgot to put the card in and turned my unit on getting the same result you described. You may need to make sure your SDCard is seated well. The machine has to confirm some files on it at power up. You will need to remove the screws holding the board in place to get enough dpace to remove and reinsert the card.

Re: Printer dead?

Jumpered the board and used the XYZ Downgrader and nothing happens. It sees the right com port but when I initiate the XYZ Downgrader, all it does is flash a quick command prompt and asks me to click "ok" after the printer restarts. Well the printer never restarts nor does anything change.

Re: Printer dead?

Where would these other PCBs be located?

They could be a problem since I have had issues with the steppers.

Using your image for reference they are the four small boards at about the mid point of the board. They are in sockets and are in a 2 x grid. They are about 1 inch by 1.5 inches each with a small IC in the center of each. One  for each axis and one for the extruder.

I doubt they are causing your issue. But you could carefully remove them since they are in sockets and see if the systems will power up then. If not I would get on the horn with XYZ about getting a new board. Or checkout Ebay for some of the damaged or broken units that would most likely have a functioning board. Not to mention lots of spare parts. The broken ones on ebay can be bought for around $300 tops and some times your get lucky like I did and there is actually nothing wrong with it.

Re: Printer dead?

Doesn't look like the stepper boards are the problem. I think something on the main board is hurt seriously.
