Topic: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem but I haven't seen a thread discussing this.

When I put and print something in the middle of the printer in Repetier Host, its not printed in the middle of my print bed.
When I tell my extruder to go to bottom-left of the build area, it hits the left y belt tensioner.
Sure seems like size and center of the printer is not set properly in Repetier Host, in the "Solidoodle 4" preset.

So am I right that some number is wrong? And what should I change?

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

Is the X carriage crashing into the left Y carriage? Or does the Y just crash it into the front tensioner?

I don't own an SD4, but I had this problem on my 2. I fixed it by taking off a couple millimeters off the X and Y. Since You have a possible 8x8x8" platform, the print areas for depth, width, and height should all be the same. So if the X (width) is fine, you should adjust Y (depth)

The front tensioner.
Do I also need to change the print area separately in the Slic3r settings as well?

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

I think you should dial the Y (depth) dimension back just a little then.
Either save your image in a good spot or write down the original numbers so you have zero down time should you want to change back.

As far as travel goes, you only need to change it in RH printer settings.

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

the X size should only be 9mm more than Y not 10 and the printer type should be same but with 'Dump' added at end if you look in drop menu its there

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

Thanks n2ri, but where have you gotten that info?
And I don't have any printer preset options except:

default
Solidoodle 2
Solidoodle 3 Base/Pro
Solidoodle 3 Expert
Solidoodle 4.

I got the Repetier Host from the Solidoodle website.
Version is 0.85b. Downloaded just a week ago.

the lower pic you posted shows the drop down menu showing L_CARTESIAN_PRINTER selcted look in there and find the same name with DUMP added to end that tells RH where the Dump area is (when sending home it goes to right rear side) the 9MM is how much Solidoodle allows on right side for this area

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

thats how all SD2 and SD3 are and pretty sure SD4 is same as SD3 on bed dimensions. also the hitting left front is due to the fan on left side of extruder on SD4 and Solidoodle knows this issue but only changed fan position on new models of SD4. more proof they dont test for proper design etc nor care once sold. which must change if they want to remain in 3D printing manufacture world.

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

oh just reread your OP if you have the new SD4 with fan not on left side of extruder anymore then you just need to change what I posted and it will move center back to right like normal

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

as for where this info came from. same as 95% of Solidoodle tech info. forums like this since SD site just tells you to measure your printer and put in info on those pages and one of the default settings in there shows the 9mm dump area in RH

hm? where has it been moved? Maybe those of us who got the old SD4 can mod it?

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

Uuh, the new Solidoodle 4 has the extruder fan on the left. Mine was purchased a month ago, and the fan is on the left.

Also I have this issue and never bothered to fix it. Let me know if you find the correct values.

And wtf. Your installation of Repetier also shows language values instead of actual text on some parts. Ever seen the message "L_HEATERS_ON_QUEST?". That should say "Cartesian Robot", not "L_CARTESIAN_PRINTER". Never fixed this either. Been using s3d for a while now.

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

that version of RH has the settings I posted. as its the same version since b4 SD4 was made/sold. search for SD4 fan topics to see where it was relocated to on latest SD4.

dont know anything about that message

if so then why dont you post correct info instead of just bashing others for trying?

I'm not bashing you, that's not what bashing is.

This is a forum where giving incorrect info can cause damage to the hardware of the person asking for help. So I wouldn't (and didn't in this thread) post something I didn't know beyond reasonable doubt.

SD4 also has one on the side. The rear fan is for cooling the motor, the front fans are for keeping the filament cool while it passes through the drive gear. We moved them to the front so they don't cut into X-axis travel.

there done your search work for you. happy now?

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

at least I try to help others in need from what I have learned the last couple years with near zero help. and if you do nothing to help but only criticize those that do that is more harmful to this community. I know the info I gave on this topic is correct even though I dont own an SD4 the RH ver software settings in pics is same software as what I have. now let some body offer help to others since thats not what your trying to do. in fact looking at your few posts all I see you doing is criticizing everyone else. thats anti-helpful/productive to this type forum.

Really? the only thing you did post here you knew nothing about the info I gave, be it wrong or right. so if you cant SHOW the so called correct response to a Topic. hold your posts. the term for such behavior is 'heckling'

From this sentence you quoted it sounds like they moved the cooling fan to the front of the extruder on their new models (Press, Workbench, Workbench Apprentice), so it won't cut the x axis like it did for SD4.

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

I tried changing to Dump, but I dont notice any difference. Still hitting the tensioner and still not printing in the middle of print bed as the model is in RH.

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

did you also change the dimensions like I posted? then save restart RH. if you are trying to use Gcode sliced with old settings that may need deleted and new Gcode sliced with correct settings also, same goes for any time bad settings where used for slicing. I only save G-code after I know it prints good

Sorry, what dimensions did you post?
It's not a few mm difference, the center is few cms off. I'll make a photo.

Re: proper Solidoodle 4 settings for Repetier Host?

Bed dimensions in RH don't help with centering by the way. You have to set that in slic3r. I totally forgot about this until just now! Make sure RH and slic3r have the same x,y dimensions.

both have to be checked if correct. sometimes RH printer settings is what Slic3r reads as options in its printer settings tab but yes check both.
