Topic: Christmas STLs

Hey everyone,

I thought given the time of year we could have a roundup of Christmas objects. I'm sure that some of us could use them to increase the WAF, so fire away.

I found and printed this star for the top of a small Christmas tree my wife has. She loves it.

Re: Christmas STLs

My mom used to make these with walnut shells and clay when we were kids.  Needs support but I was going to give it a try.  Modeled in Solidworks so it'll probably need a pass through netfabb if you want it clean.  (It's walnut sized too so if you want it bigger scale it up)

Re: Christmas STLs

I printed an Xmas tree and then shrunk down the Star tree topper to size to fit it. Also printed a snowflake ornament.
All from Thingiverse.

My gift to the community:  a photo ornament.  Simply affix a photo to the back of the print to show through the hole.

Forgive my printing quality as I'm now just waiting on my z-screw to come in. YMMV.  This was printed at .3mm, 5 perimeters, 20% infill.

Let me know how yours turns out.

Thanks cckens! This is great. Making a few to give away as Xmas gifts.
Here is how mine turned out...
Sliced with Skeinforge. Used glow in the dark abs, 3mm layer, 3 perimeters, 20% fill, 195C.

Re: Christmas STLs

HelmutK,
Yeah, I'm looking at doing that as well as money is a little tight this year.  Kidlets get gifts, adults will probably get printed materials as I still have some filament left to do it.  I'm looking at doing a small 3x5 photo frame that I can customize for each family.

Re: Christmas STLs

cckens...I noticed your print has non-faceted smooth circumference. Mine has facets. I used SKeinforge to slice it. Are you using Slic3r to slice the STL?

Re: Christmas STLs

Nope, I encountered issues with the smoothed version (that whole "holes encountered" issue), but it printed.   I fixed it after I uploaded the faceted version.  I'll upload the smoothed version tonight when I get home.  The smooth version is a little more intensive time-wise to slice (heck of a lot more tri-s), but it does look better.  The faceted version still works, but I can see why you'd want to use the smooth version more; just more pretty to look at.

Re: Christmas STLs

OK thanks cckens, no problem. More curious than anything. 3D printing is a fun hobby. Like to absorb as much info as possible about it.

Re: Christmas STLs

OK, so here's the hi-res version on the frame.  It's 14MB unzipped, so it's a doozy.
