Topic: Help with mechanical assembly of filastruder

Hi:

I hope someone could give me a hand.

I've bought recently the kit (by the way, how to figure out it's serial number ?) and I'm having some
trouble with the barrel/auger/spacers assembly. I've attached two pictures.

The problems are two:

1 - there's a gap between the wooden block and the flange, so it's loose.
2 - although I've tighted all the bolts by hand, the auger is very hard do turn. It's not
jammed but I think that it's rubbing the base of the flange. is it normal ?

Thanks !
Helio.

Re: Help with mechanical assembly of filastruder

Not sure why you posted here too, I already responded via email:

Regarding the assembly, you have assembled incorrectly. The black spacers go between the thrust bearing’s flange and the wood. Read steps 7-9 again…

and

No, it is supposed to be “loose”! The instructions even explain this:

"Axial movement of 2-3cm is normal. Slide the auger so that the thrust bearing is compressed during the future assembly steps. Pressurized plastic will handle the compression in operation."

Re: Help with mechanical assembly of filastruder

LOL those spacers were suppose to go between the wood and the flange, not on top of the flange.
I could not get it so close no matter what i do, did you use a breaker bar or something ? smile

That made my day, ama go sleep now. Hope you get that thing extruding soon.

So Just to be clear then the newest version in the assembly photo shows the black spacers on the outside of the flange and not against the wood. Which is correct?

Against the wood.
I used regular 2 by 4 instead of original piece so i wont need those spacers smile

No, it shows them in both places. At the beginning of v1.5, I had to use longer bolts to retain some backwards compatibility, thus 8 spacers were used. After serial 1146, the bolts were shortened and only 4 spacers were included.

THE INSTRUCTIONS! wrote:

7.)    Lay out 4 main bolts, put a washer on each. If your serial number is 1146 or less, put on a black spacer too.
8.)    Slide bolts through the flange, then put a black spacer on each bolt, then slide through the wooden support, and then the flange. The flat side of the flange faces the wooden support.

So, if serial is 1146 or less:

bolt head -> washer -> spacer -> flange -> spacer -> wood

else:

bolt head -> washer  -> flange -> spacer -> wood
