or would this be a better fit http://www.amazon.com/Zen-Toolworks-Car … r_dpwidget
interesting find . seems like a nice little cnc micro mill. I expect it will work fine within its limits
Could be used to add detail to 3D printed parts.
Roland is a company that has been around since the 1970s and is well known for electronic key boards then later for printing vinyl cutting and graphic arts machines.
the work envelope is tiny 2 x 3 x 1 or 50 mm x 75 mm x 25 mm
a great looking little machine . And IIRC the best price I have ever seen for a plug and play micro mill.
thanks for sharing

Nope, but the 1st ones seems ok, but is a little pricy. The Zen tool works, you still have buy the motors, spindle, and controller. All you get is just the frame.
I got one off ebay like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOP-SELLER-MINI … 3f25e1bdcd
If you go this route, get one with the black control box not the blue control box. If it's too big for what you need, search for 3020.
All depends on what you want to do and and which type of material.

Edit: No matter what size you get, you will have wished you gotten something bigger.
yeah thanks for the feedback... it all comes back to the fact im opening up a student fablab soon. http://www.soliforum.com/topic/7439/run … lidoodles/
planning on opening it up in birmingham UK as there is a large number of product design courses the 3d printing could be used for but birmingham is very well known for its jewelly and there are loads of jewelley students so the imodela could add a nice little niche for lost wax casting.

these look very enticing but oh myyyyy is that a parralell port i see? let me break out the backstreet boys cause that a major nostaligia trip!
Yep that is a parallel port... blast from the past to be sure. But they work with Mach 3 one of the software's used in the industry.
guessing a usb - parallel convertor wouldnt work...be far too easy amiright?
Pretty sure you are correct. I don't think a converter will work.

You can run Mach 3 off a USB or Ethernet connector but you need a dedicated motion controller.
the most popular one is the smooth stepper http://www.warp9td.com/ but there others as well .

Thanks for the info Tin.... Wish I had known about this sooner... May have to change over to it so I can loose the dedicated computer for my CNC.
Another option for running cnc is the beagle-bones black computer $45 with xlotech or pmdx cape. http://www.pmdx.com/pmdx-432
the bb becomes a dedicated computer but the size of a couple packs of cigarettes. and for about the same price as smooth stepper . The BBB will only run linux cnc but the software is free . You will need a HDMI display and wireless or USB mouse and keyboard.and a couple of cables. Choices choices.

I was also considering a mill for the near future: what about this: http://shop.shapeoko.com/collections/ma … shapeoko-2 ? Anybody has experience?

No experience with that mill, but I can speak for Inventables in general...They are an outstanding company and I have faith in any product they sell!
