Topic: Extending Filastruder - Flat / Oval Filament

Hello guys!

I have just disassembled my Filastruder and made it a bit "larger". Changed the motor and gears and put electrical resistances along the barrel. I needed a little bit more of production.

Filament is being extruded nicely 3mm, but as it is coming faster I need to cool it faster as well. So I picked one industry solution which is using water. I am also pulling it out with another device, where I can choose how fast I want to pull and then change its thickness. If i pull it faster I get thinner filament (trying to reach 1,75mm).

The thing here is that as soon as the filaments gets into the water it is getting  oval.. it isn't evenly round anymore (like 3,04 x 2,78mm) . Has anybody tried it yet? Any tips / hints on a workaround?

Thanks!
Best Regards,
Rick

Are you running a trickle over the filament from above?  It could be that uneven cooling is causing it to go oval.  Maybe you can try something like this, or another way of getting the whole cross-section of filament into the water at once-

Would you take a pic of you upgrade and share the parts names so maybe we can also upgrade out units ?
Thanks in advance.
I would really like to get some quicker feet per minute going here. getting old waiting for it to finish a bottle smile
