Topic: Couple newbie questions

I have had my filastruder built for about a week, and completed the purge with the ABS.

I do have a question on the build, Is the brass nozzle supposed to show some threads? or is the nozzle to be flush with the coupling? That is the original nozzle, haven't taken it off since before I began with the ABS purge, so I know it isn't from heated plastic.  (see the image)

The other thing I had noticed, it seems that there is melted ABS inside the hopper, no clogs were formed, however. I am just wondering if this is an issue. (see the other image)

Supposed to show threads. This is how NPT threads work, they're tapered so they don't snug up flush like M6 threads you might be used to on printer nozzles.

I'm not seeing melted ABS in the other picture, could be due to the photo quality.

On the photo of the hopper,  where it looks like pellets are, they are actually fused.... lemme post another photo (hopefully better)

On the photo of the barrel, that is ABS that melted to the side of the barrel in between the hopper and barrel.

When the heat is on it is way hot to the touch near the nipple.

What temperature are you running?

Re: Couple newbie questions

170 to 175, I have 170 set up on the PID but it goes between the two.

Edit: Just realized I put 170. I meant 180 and 185*** (it extrudes fine)

Re: Couple newbie questions

Yup, 180 to 185C is fine. The ABS should not be actually melting, but the auger shears the pellets which might make them look melted. The barrel at the hopper is too hot to touch depending on your pain threshold, I measure it at 65-70C with the nozzle at 180C.

Re: Couple newbie questions

Thanks for the help.

Also, is there a reason the filastruder assembly video on youtube is private?

Re: Couple newbie questions

Because it is for version 1.0 only, and people with later versions got very confused trying to use it to assemble their kits.
