Topic: YOLK.farm enables everyone to use 3D-printing

At YOLK.farm, we aim to make 3D-printing accessible for people who lack the required skill-set and resources by connecting skilled 3D designers with people wanting custom or pre-designed 3D prints as well as idle 3D printers.

We are now building up our network of deigners and printer owners, so if you fit in to any of these categories, please register on our site!

The way our platform works, is that customers describe their desired 3D printed product. Designers connected to the platform suggest sketches with the solution and make price offers. The customer can choose the sketch he/she likes and price suiting him/her best. The designers can also upload pre-made designs for customers to browse through.

If you are interested in getting 3D design jobs and if you want to sell your ready-made designs on the marketplace, you are welcome to register yourself at our marketplace yolk.farm and soon we will send you login details.

How do you differ from the 2-3 other dominant platforms for the sae function?

It sounds like your system where "customers describe their product" and designers make the bid, might be inefficient. I find my biggest time loss in listing on places like Makexyz.com is that I spent a lot of time explaining to customers what can and cannot be done, and how to design the parts. A customer usually needs to be experienced enough to design the part themselves.

That said, I list on makexyz for fun, and as a learning-teaching experience, so the fact I 'waste' all that time is not so bad. It simply would not be profitable in a rationale sense.

Re: YOLK.farm enables everyone to use 3D-printing

Our main focus is customer convenience and intuitive workflow for non-experienced users. We're also really close to launching a marketplace for designers to publish their work, and choose to sell it or just share it for free. This way, we hope to be able to provide a complete supply chain of 3D-printing services.

Our workflow model also differs in the way that customers will get an overview of the total cost before they choose which designer they want to use for their print, and hopefully they'll get a better idea of what the designers have in mind before they dedicate themselves to the actual transaction.

Hope you'll try us out, and see for yourself how the process works! We're always happy to receive any feedback to continue improving our services smile

I think what Tomek is trying to point out to you is that 3d designing has a lot of technical aspects i.e. overhang, threshold angle. support pillar configuration, infill type and the structural benefits to what type of infill. The average person might want a teddy bear with the words "love you mom" and that leads a lot of leeway for the designer to make choices the customer doesn't like. That would cost you money. A friend and I are in the beginnings of a similar process. I would recommend a cookie cutter system that allows people to choose between (customisable) existing products rather than requesting "custom" items(which would take a lot of time, effort and communication.
