Topic: first week on filastruder sn 1197

hi im from Malaysia

it had been a week with it,

i had a problem with extruding with the 250g sample ABS.

1. barrel keep turning by it self
3. ABS melt in the barrel not on the hotend
2. keep running it at 180c and after 2 hours i found out it stop..

i dissemble it and found out
1. trust bearing is broken
2. motor was fried... (i take a peek inside and find out the coil was fried)

try to replace with mabuchi motor but it was to fast (RPM) and the power supply is not supported, (the one witch look like beta motor) even with ATX PSU for secondary power supply.

can somebody specified the KIT motor spec or other replacement....

You can find a replacement directly from Tim on filastruder.com. You can also try a PWM controller to decrease the RPM to the motor you currently have but I recommend the motor from filastruder since you have a genuine kit, not a home build extruder.

Re: first week on filastruder sn 1197

If the barrel is turning, then one of three things has happened:

1.) You did not wait long enough for the plastic to melt
2.) Something is jamming the barrel, potentially due to improper assembly (the most common mistake is not keeping the thrust bearing compressed when mounting the wooden parts)
3.) Not tightening the barrel enough by hand.

I have no idea what this means:
"3. ABS melt in the barrel not on the hot end"

I also have no idea how the thrust bearing would break, it is rated for 10 times more force than is encountered. This combined with the motor burning up tells me you probably assembled it wrong, or left it stalled for a very long time.

Can you post some photos? If you are burning up motors, you are doing something wrong. I run motors for hundreds of hours without issue.

Re: first week on filastruder sn 1197

i found out this

1. (i dont know what is the thing is) that supposed grip on the drill bits... it supposed to stay on the spot but it moved causing space in the barrel.

so when heated space is to large the core(space filled with melt plastic) not melt nicely and causing the barrel to compress and forcing the drill bit move further back. and causing stuck situation.

that might causing the problem (trust bearing gone, motor fried, and wood cracking.)

this might help others that had a problem on twisting barrel, motor fried ect.

for my problem was the "cupler"(i think the name was) was not thighten nicely causing it moved from it suppose to be.

now the problem was... i cannot losen it. the hex key was damage during assambly... what a day...

Re: first week on filastruder sn 1197

If the shaft collar slipped, you did not tighten it sufficiently. If the hex key was damaged (stripped), it sounds like you were using the wrong size hex key.

The problem is not the amount of heated space, or the position of the auger in the barrel. The problem is that you did not tighten the shaft collar, which allowed the auger to push back on the motor. This made the motor shaft not line up with the auger anymore, which jammed the auger in the barrel and caused the motor to burn up.

Re: first week on filastruder sn 1197

is the auger causing the problem, coz even i tightened it, it still movin about 1cm forward causing the auger jammed....

and hey i got new motor and its fast.. is this bad?

Re: first week on filastruder sn 1197

If the shaft collar is moving on the auger, then it is not sufficiently tightened.

What new motor did you get?

Re: first week on filastruder sn 1197

the problem solved, i weld the collar...

the slow flowing is also solved by discovering a metal stuck in the nozzle, clean it by heat it up on gas stove and peel it out using pins.

the motor just written with MABUCHI 12V, its seems like the one inside boch cordless drill. very fast

i already extruding good filament around 30g ABS within 10min. And i began to love my filastruder,

thanks guys for helping me solved the problem.

ill will try to upload something soon

thanks.
