Topic: Possible Motor Problem

I think my motor may have gone bad on my filastruder.  For a while now when I turned it on, the PID would blink, cut our, then the motor would start.  Now, when I turn on the switch, the PID just blanks out and the motor just ticks every few seconds.  I've tried replacing the motor wire but it does the same thing.

Re: Possible Motor Problem

I doubt the motor failed. More likely higher ambient temps (summer) are causing protection to kick in early on the power supply. Have you tried powering the motor separately?

When the motor is first powered up, it is stalled (0RPM). Therefore, motor startup is close to an over current condition for the power supply, but when the motor starts running current drops significantly.

Re: Possible Motor Problem

I had a spare PC power supply that I hooked up to the motor.  When it got to temp, I turned it on, it smoked a bit but started to turn.  It seems to be running slower than usual but  it's running.  Maybe I didn't let it heat up long enough at temp and it's a little stiff?

Smoking is not good! Email me if you want to work out a replacement.

Can you check the current draw and the winding resistance? Standard motor?
