Topic: New 3D Printer?

I was on the UC Berkeley campus on Sunday and I ran into a group of people who were showcasing some 3D printed objects. I have been curious about 3D printing ever since I saw a classmate’s project, so I approached them. They were really enthusiastic about their stuff and showed me some of the things they had on hand. One of them was this amazing replica of the Statue of Liberty. I don’t have much experience in the 3D printing world, but I remember that my classmate’s projects were not this detailed.  I think they said they were with kudo3d or Titan1 or something. Does anyone know of them?

Re: New 3D Printer?

I finally figured out why I couldn't find any reviews on the Titan 1: It hasn't been released yet! Apparently they are launching on Kickstarter soon. If I buy one as a backer, it will run me $1800. I don't really understand the specs listed on their site. The XY resolution is 37μm to 100μm. And the Z resolution is 1μm. So is the Z resolution good and the XY resolution bad?

And the print times are listed as this:

Maximum print speed:
> 2.7 inches / hr for xy:50μm and z:100μm resolution
> 1.3 inches / hr for xy:100μm and z:100μm resolution
> 1.9 inches / hr for xy:100μm and z:200μm resolution

Is this slower or faster than some of the other printers?

I also enjoy graphic art, so eventually I would like to print out some 3D statues I designed. This printer can print 7.5″ x 4.25″ x 9.5″ (WxDxH). Is this pretty standard?

I have no idea what I am getting myself into; I just know that I really liked the quality of what the team showed me. I would appreciate some coaching. wink

Thanks again!

Re: New 3D Printer?

Just thought that I should let you know that Kudo3D moved the Kickstarter launch date to May 27th. You are probably one of their subscribers so you probably know this already. Also, I was told that they only have 10 units available at the $1899 price point, so you are going to have to get on Kickstarter early that morning to be sure to get one at this price. From what I can tell, it looks like a great printer. I am contemplating getting one too.

À tout à l'heure!

http://www.3ders.org/pricecompare/3dprinters/ does a good job grouping pretty-much-all of them in one place
