Topic: $10 Stand-Alone Vertical Mount from PVC
I've been meaning to get this posted for quite a while now, so without further ado, my $10 simple PVC vertical Filastruder stand! I wanted to re-mount my 'struder vertical but don't have the wall space to sacrifice in my bedroom, so I ran to my local hardware store and grabbed the following:
2x 10 feet 1" pvc
6x 90 degree elbow connector for 1" PVC
2x T connector for 1" PVC
1x U-bolt which fits the 1" PVC
Total cost= a few cents over $10 from my local (and slightly over-priced) hardware store, but with significant figures, it's still $10
This was designed with a 3-4-5 right triangle in mind since I had a cabinet to prop this up against if I needed, so 2 pieces cut to 5' each make up the hypotenuse of the triangle, 2 4' pieces make up the vertical leg, and a 3' string of unused Filastruder filament holds the two "legs" together creating the base. That left a little less than 2 feet of PVC for the depth of the stand. I ended up making it too skinny at first, but eventually ended up with 1 8" piece for the base of the 4' leg, one 7" piece for the 5' hypotenuse leg, and a combination of 2 2" and 1 3.5" piece for the top joint. the pictures show my setup a little more clearly.
I ended up using a little more than 3 feet of filament to hold the 2 legs together as it had a tendency to buckle in on itself when propped against the cabinet. Please excuse the mess
This is the back of the U-bolt, and shows the 2 2" and one 3.5" piece of PVC a little more clearly.
I'm also using 2 washers I had around the house already between the nut and wood of the base so it wouldn't dig into the Filastruder's base.
