Topic: Filastruder nozzle mesh

Hi everyone,

I was wondering who was using the newer nozzle with the mesh insert with their Filastruder and whether they felt it improved the quality of the filament? I am guessing that the cleaner one keeps the ABS pellets the better and maybe keeping the hopper covered when not in use to avoid dust inside could help as well. Any other suggestions regarding keeping filament clear of foreign debris if not using the mesh insert? I really want to protect the pricey all metal hot end on my printer.

Thanks,
Jacqueline

Re: Filastruder nozzle mesh

I really have the melt filter to prevent the occasional shaving from the barrel from getting through.  After my purge I ran about 30M through and there was still metal present in the filament.  I figure for the cost, the filter is the best way to rid myself of the nuisance.  As for debris, I keep my pellets clean until I put them in the hopper.  If my machine rests for a while (like a week or so) I run about 20g through and re-purge.  This is usually enough to clear the hopper of any contaminants.

The mesh filter removes contaminants 200 microns and larger. It should prevent all common hot end nozzle sizes from clogging (0.25mm+).

I keep my pellets in a sealed tupperware container to keep them clean.  I also have made a cap / cover for the hopper funnel to keep contaminants out of the hopper, since I have things set up in my garage and it can get dusty out there.  I want to tweak the fit some more, but I've put it up on Thingiverse as a 'work in progress': http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:239303
