That looks awesome! I wonder how they do it.. special filament with carbon strands interlaced??

Re: New printer for stronger materials

Don't know... just saw it last night when a guy over at fpvlab posted a link on it smile and I was busy working on getting tax stuff figured out....still am so haven't done much else.

Re: New printer for stronger materials

Huh, didn't realize you were on fpvlab. Same name?

Also hackaday seems to think this thing is a load of crap.

Well bummer... not like I had 5G's to drop on it anyhow with tax time here sad

Yeah, I have a couple UID's on fpvlab but lately use this one the most, don't have a zephyr like you... mostly multirotors and skywalker types and a few homemade oddball things wink

Re: New printer for stronger materials

Should get a zephyr =P  It's great.

I am curious what they use for that printer, though.. if its just merely carbon fiber in pla, then.. well I know what I wanna try when I get an e3d..

Re: New printer for stronger materials

from the way they bill it I wold say that the fiber is laid out separate or in concert with the regular filament... but who knows there isn't a lot of details out there yet I can't believe they would just use custom filament...

I actually have a few mini wings from crash test hobby and I can attest that their name is accurate wink I think my next large plane will be a skyhunter smile there's just so much room inside it's mind boggling...

Re: New printer for stronger materials

I've been thinking of making my own custom plane..   I need to somehow make a cnc foam cutter or something is what I need to do.  Or make hotwire cut templates with the printer.

Re: New printer for stronger materials

if it's just for cutting wings and the like some simple printed jigs will be simple and quick then all you need is some nichrome wire from ebay and you're golden smile

Re: New printer for stronger materials

I did at one point contemplate making a cnc cutter, but I don't even know how people go about making the software to guide them.  Oh well.

Anyway, hope more details come out about this carbon fiber printer because right now it seems a bit.. useless.

If you are interested in cnc cutter (Open Source) and also making foam plane parts see:

Re: New printer for stronger materials

My main go to site for CNC mills and stuff is cnczone.com I built quite a few things mostly from ideas over there smile

They also have a good sized 3dprinting section http://www.cnczone.com/forums/forum.php … d_scanners

Re: New printer for stronger materials

Is CF not quite nasty for ones lungs at basically any size?

This is a crowd funding thing that I'm running: http://www.gofundme.com/bvi140 It's for pretty selfish reasons tongue

Re: New printer for stronger materials

CF is only a problem if you are cutting it dry and making CF dust that is inhaled, so always cut it wet.
