Topic: Smell and Ambient Temperature & Humidity Requirements

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to get a Filastruder sometime in the future, and I had a couple quick questions.

The first one is towards the people who already own one. How's the smell while it's extruding? I have my 3D Printer in a room in my house, and was hoping to put the Filastruder in this same room. However, I'm concerned about the smell produced while extruding the filament.

The second question is in case I can't put it in my house. I do have a shop outside that is unairconditioned. Weather in my area can range from 30F to 110F or more, with at times 100% humidity. My concern is what the weather conditions will do to the filament during extrusion.

The smell in none compared to the printer in my opinion.  As for the humidity, as long as you dry the pellets before use and quickly move the filament in once done extruding for the day, you could probably get away with it problem-free.

I'll second that. Filament extrusion is cooler than 3D printing, so less fumes. Like 3D printing, the process is a bit temperature sensitive, and certainly humidity sensitive, so inside would be better. Or at least store your filament in a sealed container with desiccant in it, so it doesn't get full of water.

No! Definitely well ventilated area, ideally outdoors. The instructions specifically say not to do it indoors!

You're right that the temperatures are similar to or lower than 3D printing, but really 3D printing probably shouldn't be done indoors either - or at least not in an enclosed space without exhaust ducting.

By the way, I have used the Filastruder in 30F to 100F, 30% RH to 95% RH, and I cannot tell a difference with ABS, and PLA is also fine as long as it has been pre dried appropriately.
