Topic: Free: slightly bowed but otherwise working SD3 print bed

I have a stock Solidoodle SD3 print bed, with heater, thermometer, and insulation, free to anyone who wants it.  The heater and thermistor work, and the connectors are original.  No kapton on it.  It's exactly what's included in this item.
http://store.solidoodle.com/image/cache/data/ALUMINUM%20BUILD%20PLATE%20+%20HEATING%20ELEMENT%208X8-228x228.jpg

The only problem with it is that it has a slight bow in the X direction: if you lay a straightedge across the middle from -X to +X, there will be about a half millimeter between it and the bed at the center.  You can't see it (at least I can't), but it's enough even to make a gap in single-strength glass laid on the bed would also bend when clipped in two or three corners, causing me all kinds of printing problems (all solved when I replaced it).

Maybe you only need the heater, thermistor, insulation, or connectors.  Maybe you have a way to flatten the bed.  Maybe you want to put ceramic, or some very sturdy glass that won't follow the bow, on top of it, so the bow won't affect the print surface, and you know how to make up for the air gap so the heating is still even.  Maybe you want to use it to make a Halloween costume, or play Extreme Frisbee with it, or something.  Whatever.  Just don't let it go to waste.

I'll expect you to cover the costs of getting it to you.  Assuming you aren't in Vermont and can't pick it up, you can pay postage (your choice of postage method), plus whatever overhead costs there are on getting the money to me by Dwolla ($0.25) or PayPal (whatever they think they can get away with) or by mailing me a check or something.  I've already got the packing materials that Solidoodle sent it to me in.

If you're interested, post here (so other folks know someone's got dibs), then PM me your address and what kind of shipping you want.

Re: Free: slightly bowed but otherwise working SD3 print bed

Is the SD3 support shaft spacing the same as the SD2 spacing? If so, I'd love to pick this up. I think it is the same, but I'm studying for a test right now that's starting soon and can't verify.

What do you think shipping would cost to NC? (27705.) As long as it's not very high >$20 I would be excited. If you give me dimensions, weight, and sending from location, I can probably price it out myself.

^_^ Thanks

No idea.  But would an SD3 bed fit in an SD2, with the two extra inches?

(FWIW, Solidoodle says "This plate will not work with the Solidoodle 2nd Generation." on the parts page.)

I would need to mod a few things, but right off the bat the width is no problem.  Gosh been inundated with schoolwork recently so fell behind on my plans to figure this out - sorry.

Idk, i suppose if someone else can more immediately use it then that might be more appropriate.

Well, there's no other nibbles yet, so it's yours if you want it.  Shipping prices of course depend on what shipping you choose; you can see all the options at usps.com.  I imagine it'll fit in one of the flat-rate boxes if you wanted to go that way, too.

My first thought is that it is nothing a little jb weld wouldn't fix, or a hammer.

It's still here; I'll post if and when it ever leaves.

I've had four or five nibbles but no one went as far as to look up the rates, so I finally gave in and looked them up for you.
If you want to do a flat rate box, it comes to:
$12.35 if you want to send me a check or money order
$12.60 if you want to pay with Dwolla ([email protected])
$13.03 if you want to pay with PayPal ([email protected])

There are much cheaper options on usps.com if you want to pay less than a flat rate box, and don't mind it taking longer.

I don't want to pick and choose which of the people who've asked about the same time, but not looked up rates, gets here first.  So whoever follows through first gets it.  I will post here immediately once that happens.  So if you don't see me having said it's gone, it's not gone, and go ahead and claim it.
