Topic: Fedora and Repetier Host and Slic3r

All the official solidoodle web pages say nothing about RH for linux, but Fedora has many 3d printer related tools in the repos already, though clearly not tweaked for Solidoodle. Anyone out there already using Fedora (or some other linux) version of RH and Slic3r with success? Any horror stories about getting them to work?

Lawsy posted some alternatives. I think he has visiprint or w/e running on his Linux based pengpod.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

Re: Fedora and Repetier Host and Slic3r

After poking around a while, I installed the Windows version from the solidoodle web site into a virtual machine, then copied the Slic3r directory the installer created down in my "application data" directory to my fedora ~/.Slic3r home directory, and it seems to see all the same predefined settings. I guess I'll see how well it works after my printer arrives. They are different versions of Slic3r - the solidoodle windows version is 0.85 and the update-testing version I installed from the fedora repos is 0.90C. Hopefully the same setting will work OK.

Re: Fedora and Repetier Host and Slic3r

Well, I got my solidoodle and tried to use the fedora version of Repetier Host and it can't ever seem to connect to the printer.

Pronterface, on the other hand, has no problem connecting, and I can manually move in all 3 axis, so it looks like my permissions and the hardware are fine.

Anyone gotten Repetier Host 0.90C to work on linux? I'll have to try running strace to see what sorts of things it might be doing to open /dev/ttyACM0 and compare that to pronterface, but maybe someone has already debugged this?

Re: Fedora and Repetier Host and Slic3r

Hey! Finally figured it out: The user interface in RH has rendered the "Connect" button invisible to my brain. I looked everywhere for a connect button (like in the Printer menu, or near the Printer Settings button, or on the manual control tab) and never found it till my eyes were finally able to focus on it hours later :-).

Once I found it (and figured out I needed to use the pulldown to make it connect to the solidoodle2 rather than "default") I really do seem to have a working Repetier Host on Fedora.

Both RH and PF work just fine on most distros, using mono framework. RH has instructions from windows users on their site, but you should be able to get it going fairly easily. On the old motherboards (sanguino) there was an issue with mono framework and the standard baud rates, but this should not be an issue with the printer-board derivative "Solidoodle Motherboard"

However, please do make sure that your Solidoodle has access to USB. By default it does not (try running RH as root using sudo.)
