Topic: My two most annoying problems

The y shift is caused by two different things on my machine.

1) If I don't have a cooling fan on the electronics.
2) The friction from the rear bushings on the Y axis rod. (I don't know a better name for this rod)

I've heard some people have found changing the belt tension on one side or the other will solve this problem.

The z axis wobble matches the threads on the z-axis.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to solve this one.

Re: My two most annoying problems

If that is wobble and not squishing, then it's huge.  Do you see the top of the rod moving around a lot?  When you run the bed up and down, look through the "window" at the back of the z stage.  Can you see the rod moving back and forth?  It seems like it would have to be inconsistent movement in Z more that XY wobble of the rod.

I suggest at the very least ask Solidoodle to send you a new z motor/rod.   Send them an email every day and hang out in IRC and bug John if you see him show up.

I guess I'm not sure how to tell.  I've got a fan on my electronics, before I did that I was getting squishing where my prints would be 80% of their height etc.

If it's squishing, why would the pattern be exactly that of the thread size on the z rod?

I can't check to see how much it moves right now, maybe tonight I'll get a chance.  I wonder if I can measure it with the dial gauge.

Re: My two most annoying problems

How can you tell if you have a new Z motor/rod? Are there any visual differences. I saw your post Ian regarding the new one you received, but I couldn't tell a difference from those pictures.

The old one can be seen here:

It has a coupling to hold the rod.
The new one is a straight rod into the motor.

Re: My two most annoying problems

Tony had the idea that if there is something wrong with the threads, it would affect the consistency of Z movement, and it would be cyclical.  Getting a new rod would hopefully rule out the connection to the motor and the possibility of a defective rod.  If the problem is exactly the same, then you could focus on juntion between the rod and the nut.

The problem you are having so far out of the norm, it would seem that something must be defective, so start replacing.

This is the correct assessment.

I've contacted you via email several days ago with no answer.  This is still regarding the problems I reported on Aug28 with no answer.
