Topic: Tool/setting for remove support

What tool do you guy use for removing support?
i have a support stuck in a circle/tube like area... and my smallest knife can't reach it even if i can reach it, i can't make a flat cut. Using dremel to grind it doesn't work. it just melts :-(

this is 3rd time I print with support... is there a setting in rapetierHost to make the support easier to pull away? I use honey cone support... and sometimes the wall of the honeycone is imbeded to the model itself, and usually supports are in hard to reach place.. :-( sigh... some body help me!

i pretty much just pull the support away... i dont use honeycomb though,, rectilinear. the support should be like an accordion when pulled.. give it a go!

Re: Tool/setting for remove support

I'm not sure what to tell you with your current predicament, but I feel you pain with removing support material.

What slicing program are you using?  I found that when ever I need to do a print with support, I like using Kisslicer instead of Slic3r.  Kisslicer has better settings which will allow you to make supports that will "almost" just snap off.

If you haven't tried Kisslicer, I would highly recommend do so.  The only draw back to using KS is that it does not have a brim option.  So I still use Slic3r whenever I don't need supports.

I use RH with slic3r.
@ysb, why is it even an option... sigh...
@Randavian, can you use Kisslicer with repetierHost?

KS is not integrated like Slic3r is.  You run it by itself, save the gcode to your hard drive, then in RH you click load and find that gcode.  Then print.

KS also slices models quicker than Slic3r.  I would use it for everything, if it had the option to print a brim.

KS is fantastic, I almost predominately use it now.
For support material it comes away easy,  have the gap set to 0.5m.

I'd suggest getting some bike spokes and grinding the end down to form different pick/scraper shapes. I have some I made up years ago for another project. They get into the tight gaps and remove the last bits of fluff that stick. They'll also fit inside holes to remove strings etc.
