Topic: Nerf Dart Gun in progress

The body is slightly too large to print on our bed, so I'm printing one vertically and z rotated 45* to see how bad the support makes it to clean up.

I've printed everything else (and already bought all the other stuff, springs, orings, etc.).

So the vertical print died about 2cm in with "gcode line not next line ####+1" or something like that.

So I tried to print it horizontally (it looked like it just barely fit). Nope, woke up to it having hit the end stop.

Opened netfabb this morning and sliced off the points that were fouling it up.

Trying again smile

Ugh.  Got a few layers further this time, but it died again.  Have to hit the reset button on the board to get it to come back to life.  Can't connect, etc.  There was nothing in the log.

The square ICs on the board were ripping hot... I put a little fan by the board and am trying again.  Of course it failed after 90 minutes or so.  Huge waste of plastic and time debugging this.

Fan seems to be doing the trick.  Almost done with the print.  I guess this means I need to print the electronics cover with fan provision...

Might I suggest you have a loose connection somewhere?

The thinner the piece of wire, the hotter it will get for a given current. If you have something that is just touching it's the same as having a tiny wire for that connection. The heat will build up and spread through the board until something is unhappy.

Ian had a similar problem recently with his power terminal, and it got hot enough to burn.  Add the case with fan too, but take a few minutes to check everything that plugs into the board is done so securely.
