Topic: Hi from Cincy, OH

Hi everyone.

I just placed an order for a Solidoodle 3 and I am very exicted to get started in the 3d printing world.  I am a mechanical engineer so my head is just swimming with the possibilities of things I want the print.  Whats cooler than a big kid toy maker?

My first projects are things for the car.  I do something called autocross where I have heavily messed with my car.  I think the ability to print some simple things could help improve the quality of those things.  There are plenty of items that dont carry real load that I can work on.

Can't wait to get it.  Looks like there is a great community here.

Welcome autoxer!

Looking forward to seeing your projects on the forums!  Be sure to look around and familiarize yourself with 3D printing design techniques while you're waiting.  There's a lot of unique engineering that goes into designing parts for FDM and I am enjoying the challenge.

I think I understand the limitation and advantages of FDM designs.  At this point I am more concerned about sucessfully operating the thing, but this site seems like an excellent resource.

Hi autoxer,

I'm an ME too and heading to Cincy for a CAD conference in a couple weeks. I'm 1/2 tempted to take my Solidoodle with me :-)

There are some really good resources on the forum here.  I'd also check out some of the threads on material.  You may want to buy some ahead of time so you are all ready to go.
