Topic: Number 59 Running Smooth!

First of all Congratulations Team Filastruder - Tim!
I was able to put together #59 without any hiccups. Only one note - I ran the motor backwards for about an hour then realized that the Red Marked terminal on the motor was to be the Ground. This correctly makes the motor turn clockwise when looking at the unit from the Hot End.

Regardless, the unit has been running smooth and extruding plastic perfectly! Very nice!!

I am still seeing just a few shavings in the filament and am just about all through the initial small batch of pellets it came with. I had ordered a bunch more from OSP so no worries there. It appears that all shavings are most likely cleaned out now. So on to some test printing tomorrow.

I also noticed that with the PID temperature set to 190, it is reading approx 180 and the flow is smooth and very consistent. With my digital caliper I am measuring approx 1.68mm-1.74mm. That is indeed incredible.
Really satisfied with this Kickstarter.

Tim you have run an very smooth campaign, Hats off to you. You have been a perfect example of how a Kickstarter should be run.
Thanks again!
-Chris

Re: Number 59 Running Smooth!

Glad to hear it!

Sorry about the motor wiring - I'll revise the instructions to include that.

The reason you're not hitting the set point temp is the whole nozzle is exposed. If you move the insulation forward a bit to cover the sides of the nozzle, you'll hit the desired temp.

Happy extruding!

Got it....(smacks self on forehead)...I should have realized that. Thanks Tim, I'll move the insulation a bit forward.

I'm glad to report that the motor is also surprisingly quiet. I thought it would be louder than it is from some of the other videos I had watched.

I'm off to some extruding now...

The beta testers had a really noisy motor - about 60dB.

Kickstarter backers get one that's about 52dB.

If you think that one's quiet, wait until you (don't) hear our new motor!

Hello Tim,
Thats an interesting comment... and here comes the inevitable, I presume this "new" motor will be an upgrade available later?
Thanks

Yeah, after a couple months. It's halfway through alpha testing (250 hours logged so far), next is beta testing and then release. I don't like releasing parts without pretty throughly testing them - so it will be available post-kickstarter.
