Topic: Repetier+Slic3r question

I'm running what I assume is the newest release Repetier-host (downloaded 3 days ago) along with its bundled Slic3r on Win7.  All is great except the printer configurations created in Slic3r do not become available..as in, there are no printers or print settings or fillament options to choose from in the selection boxes under the Slic3r tab.  Does that make sense?, after I've created the configurations they pretty much disapear.

The config files do exist and I think they might even be in the correct location but I could be wrong??  When I click Setup in the Slic3r tab, a box pops up and shows me this path for the configuration directory:
C:\Users\mdeilke\AppData\Roaming\Slic3r\filament  and when I navigate to that location sure enough the config files are there.

Still great programs even when having to configure from scratch each use..but it would be cool to load saved print setttings.

Anyone had the same issue or have any ideas?

-Thanks.

Re: Repetier+Slic3r question

It is possible to exit Slic3r without saving the profile, so the obvious and easy suggestion is to make sure that you are saving prior to exiting. Apologies if this is too obvious. I'd be reinstalling RH otherwise.

Re: Repetier+Slic3r question

The 85b I dl'd the other day installed right over the 84? version on winxp still had all my settings.... I wonder if your first install was not in the default location???

Anyways you should be able to copy the config files into the new install location so as not configure from scratch smile

Ok, I just checked the location on mine for windows vista bus '/users/[mine]/AppData/Local/Repet.......' I see yours was in roaming I wonder if this might be causing a prob??? you should have a 'Local' dir there also try putting copies of the same files in it and see what happens. I don't mess with windows roaming features so I might be way off here????

After all that typing I see the above post beat me sad Right about RH not saving profiles though you have to reselect the profile name after you make all your changes then click save otherwise it will lose everything.

Re: Repetier+Slic3r question

Ahh those are good suggestions.  I'm 99% sure I've been saving before clicking away from slic3r..especially while I was trying to fix the problem (create a config, save it, look for it..) but I'll try again to make sure.

I like that idea of placing the config files in a simple local location and sending Slic3r there to look for them. If that fails maybe I'll re-install.

BTW, I've been hesitant to move too much around since everything feels a little like a house of cards.  For instance when I installed Repetier it flat-out refused to believe in Com7 like it was bigfoot, then after many tries it seemed to give up "oh, you mean that Com7 right over there?, yeah no problem".

Thanks everyone.

Re: Repetier+Slic3r question

OK, solution found.  I tried placing the config files in an easy local location and pointing Slic3r to them..no luck..still no saved printer setups to choose from in the drop-down menus.  I removed and reinstalled Repetier-Host with the exact same results.

Finally, on the Slic3r setup (where it shows the directory for the config files) I left the path blank for "guessed location" whatever that means, and it worked.  Absolutely no idea why it worked.

Also went through the Com7 thing again.  Even though nothing had changed, Repetier again refused to believe in Com7 until I re-flashed my board.

Hope this helps someone down the road.

Re: Repetier+Slic3r question

This would be a great feature for a future version of RH; intuitive, idiot-proof export & import of settings.

I have 2 machines that I like to run my SD2 on, and I gave up trying to get the settings across. Probably impatient, but it indicated that the process could be improved.
