Topic: Slicer 0.9.9 : different layer height on same print

ok.. i just tested one of the new functions of slic3r 0.9.9...

open Slic3r, then drag an object on the 'plater' screen. then you can double click on the object name.
a new window will open, where there is a new tab named 'Layers'

in this screen you can set a min Z, max Z and a layer height like this example :

0  2   0.3
2  8   0.2
8   10   0.3

from the base (0) to 2 mm, use a layer height of 0.3 , then from 2mm to 8mm use 0.2 layer then.. etc etc

like on this picture

http://www.soliforum.com/misc.php?action=pun_attachment&item=1944&download

you can clearly see the layer height change ... it's great !

for example of my huntress bust, you can print the base with a layer of 0.3, then switch to a 0.2mm layer for more details to the end...  time gain !!

i love this function... with a clever construction of a model, you can win a lot of time without too much details loss...
you can use it also to make a textured flat surface (you can draw 'line' ....)

the only problem : you need to open slic3r by hand... you can not use this function from within repetier-host

I can see how this would be handy.  I don't suppose with the new version they brought back the raft option, did they?

Re: Slicer 0.9.9 : different layer height on same print

Will I be able to use newer slicer with repetier host? I noticed the Solidoodle version uses a slightly older version (I think .9.7 instead of .9.9). I am still waiting on my Solidoodle 2 but played with repetier host a bit just to get a little used to it.

there is a "check for update" in the menu of repetier-host... it will update repetier-host AND slic3er... what a beautiful world ?

Re: Slicer 0.9.9 : different layer height on same print

are you under windows 7 or winXP ? i see in your menu that you use also repetier-host ?

do you update slic3r thru the update menu of repetier-host ? if not, do it this way.

New version does indeed have raft.

Can you do this from within repetier, or do you have to download slicer and run it separately. I've checked I am up to date, but can't see how to access these settings.

Could some upload a screenshot or 2 please?

Nevermind, I figured it out. I've been loading the STL file via repetier rather than in slicer itself

?? you can load the GCODE in repetier... but you need to open the STL in slic3r to made a different layer height in the same gcode

I've looked through the menus on RH .82b and cannot find the update place. Please let me know where it is.

Re: Slicer 0.9.9 : different layer height on same print

it's missing from this version... you just need to download the latest 0.85b and install it. after that, you will have the 'update' menu
