Topic: Hello from So Cal.

Hi I am new to 3D printers.  Built a nice machine from MakerFarm (a Prusa) and am using Repetier as the host.  So far my results have been poor.  Material just doesn't seem to stick to the Kapton tape.  If anyone has a maker farm machine and knows of a guide out there to fine tune Repetier that would be of great help to me.

Bed seems to be level (not sure how close the nozzle should be to the bed)
Plastic melts from 200-240, I am not sure when to hot is to hot.  (I don't see any black/brown plastic)
Sticking seems to work best when I set the bed to 95C.  Although I have measured the bed with a infrared thermometer and it says its around 65C.

Re: Hello from So Cal.

Kapton works well with ABS, however one trick I found is to wipe the tape with Acetone before I print. This cleans the bed and makes the surface a little bit tacky. I also run my bed at 95 degrees so the heat will cause the ABS to stick. As far as the hot end and surface, I use a business card between the bed and hot end to measure the distance. It should be close enough that there is a slight resistance when trying to pull the business card out.
