Topic: Newbie Question: How to load filament in the middle of print

Hi, I am a newbie in 3D Print, Solidoodle is my first 3D printer (it is up in the air now).

I have a question, if the filament is used out / nearly used out during a print, what is the procedure to 'refill' it?

Crazy thought, should I heat and melt the two ends together to serve as a continue feed?

Re: Newbie Question: How to load filament in the middle of print

When the filament is almost empty, I just pause the printer, reverse the small amount of filament out then extrude the new filament in the printer. If you are not careful, it could leave a blob on the print but I have been pretty successful changing without issues I can't fix. I've used this method to print in several colors and it seems to work well. Others have joined two filaments together by heating them up and had success as well. Solidoodle seems to have a good hot end extruder setup that can handle a filament swap easily.

Thanks a lot! I will try both methods for testing.
