Topic: 3D printing, then and now

Read this article, written by my cousin, almost 25 years ago!

http://www.nytimes.com/1990/09/23/busin … -fast.html

Here are some quotes:

"Rapid prototyping has allowed designers to complete projects that formerly took six months or more in less than three weeks."

"Rapid prototyping also saves tens of thousands of dollars per part in modeling costs - compared to traditional methods"

"The technology might also give birth to true just-in-time manufacturing for some businesses."

It reads as if it could have been written last week.

Re: 3D printing, then and now

It's funny how all of the sudden everyone jumped on the bandwagon.  I've been around it for years for work and a brother that worked for a rapid prototyping company.  I almost bought an Objet for home use when I started seeing the reprap stuff and found solidoodle by luck.

But you're right this shows that the media coverage hasn't changed in all that time.

Re: 3D printing, then and now

That's a neat article!!!!  It's amazingly much less expensive...nearly all thanks going to low cost microcontroller market would be my guess..."3D's systems currently range in cost from $95,000 to $385,000"...guess there is not much room to complain when you compare our SD to those cost...that really makes this machine look like a amazing bargain!  I know I could never easily live a day-to-day life w/o mine from this point on..it was a real life changer.

Next time you pick up that celebrity magazine or entertainment news publication at your dentist's office, local barber shop or hair salon - or you discover the fantastic views and viewpoints at your favorite online entertainment news stop, keep in mind that the mythological evil paparazzi had a major hand in bringing you that enjoyment. There is always more than one side to every story and a tall tale holds no interest in today's world without imaginative photography.

It's banning season.

I always thought they were real.  Does this mean the Easter Bunny is a  myth too?
