Topic: Electroplating ABS

Hi,

I have been thinking of ways to plate ABS plastic in metal such as chrome, silver, or gold. While I was looking I came across this webpage: www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=525

While I am sure this method would work I was wondering if you printed with the conductive filament, would you be able to plate it in the traditional way? Is there anything that would make this impossible?  I am still waiting for my printer to be shipped, is there anyone out there prepared and willing to test? Thanks in advance for any info!

Sorry if this is off topic, it seemed like the best place to post it. Feel free to move or delete.

I edit my posts a lot.

caswellplating.com

They sell a spray paint that will provide a sufficiently conductive surface when dry.  Of course they sell everything else you need as well.
I have a variety of their kits, it does take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it you can do really nice work with it.

You could also look into vacuum metallizing. Certainly more expensive, but for a really nice finished piece you might consider it.

He mentions a specific company in the video, but I'm sure a google search would turn up quite a few.
