Topic: Solidoodle Spare Parts

I don't have my printer yet but the first few things i plan to print are the replicated parts that come on the solidoodle itself.

And I have no idea how fragile the parts are or what they even do, but I think it would be a good idea since if one of those parts break I have the part already in hand, versus me having a broken printer and can't produce the part since it's broken.

So yeah it would be great to have those STL files of the parts that come on the solidoodle that can be replicated just for back up.

Yes, I second this. Maybe John can help us out on this and make a post with the stls for common Solidoodle parts?

Re: Solidoodle Spare Parts

I've heard that some printers recommend that one of the first things that you should print is an extruder head. (given that ABS will wear.)

is this true of Solidoodle too? and if so are the parts available as STL files, (or even just plain G-Code?) -or will we be coming back to the shop when/if the extruder wears and breaks?

From what I can tell by the pictures, it looks like the extruder is put together with acrylic, but im sure someone with a printer can correct me.

At the moment we aren't offering these. We're still making design revisions, and we want to move to something more stable before distribute STL's. It will probobly happen soon.

Thanks for chiming in, we'll wait until such a time that you can post them and make them available smile

Re: Solidoodle Spare Parts

Further down that road, would it be possible that Solidoodle will start selling enough spare components to make your own Solidoodle?  That would be cool if those who have one already could build their own and attempt to make modifications such as bigger print areas, heated chambers, dual extruders...  It might be a good way for Solidoodle to have a free test bed from motivated tinkerers.

Most likely no. Right now the focus of the company is on making something that is easily premade. Kit products actually have needs which are much different. Unfortunately, our design isn't super-safe for tinkering either at this point. I'm sure someone will figure out multiple extruders, but it will not be a trivial mod.

Re: Solidoodle Spare Parts

well once you have the printer you can get the stl files for one of the other printer designs and build one of those to tinker on. in that case it would be you having to get the parts involved that couldn't be pritned such as the controls etc.
