Topic: Davinci 1.0a conversion to Ramps 1.4 with pics and firmware

Hey guys, long time lurker and I wanted to share my build and information here in case someone is looking to do the same thing and hopefully this helps.

I did a E3DV6 conversion  with Repetier 0.92 flashed and sadly a print failed, which had a ton of plastic build up on the nozzle.  I heated up the nozzle to scrub it clean with a brass bristle brush and popped something on the board.   I looked for a zero ohm resister I might of blown and tried bridging the R257 and no luck.

So I decided to spend $29 on Amazon and get a Ramps 1.4 kit. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BKVPZ71/re … SEbF6J7D7B)

The swap wasn't difficult.   I made sure to label each wire and connector before I unplugged and removed them from the stock board.    This made the swap go smoothly.  I removed the original optical sensors as well and used the included mechanical end stops.  The STL files are included in my ZIP file.

I am running Repetier 0.92.9 and it is configured for the mechanical end stops, 100k thermistors found in the original E3Dv6 which I also used in the print bed.   I removed the original print bed thermistor and just placed the little glass replacement in between the glass and the fiberglass matting underneath.

I was able to run the factory case LED lighting too.   Below are pics of the original circuit board.  Its made with 3 wires all brown in color.   The one with white arrow is the 5v plug which controls when to turn on the LED.  The middle is ground.   The outside without the arrow is a 12v +.     You can see where I wired them up on the Ramps 1.4 board.    You could move the plug over to a servo plug and configure it in Repetier to turn on and off with certain commands but I didnt care.   On when powered is fine by me.

The stepper motor wires were cut off and I used RC hobby type connectors, I used JST 3S balance lead connectors to plug into the ramps board.

Da Vinci stepper motor lead -  Yellow wire to the Ramps stepper coil name - 2B.
Da Vinci stepper motor lead -  Red wire to the Ramps stepper coil name  - 2A
Da Vinci stepper motor lead -  Blue wire to the Ramps stepper coil name - 1B
Da Vinci stepper motor lead -  Orange wire to the Ramps stepper coil name  - 1A

Attached is a ZIP file which includes the following:
- Repetier 0.92.9 firmware for the 1.0
- STL files for mechanical end stops, Ramps 1.4 mount and a 40mm fan mount for the ramps board (thank you to this build for those http://www.techmonkeybusiness.com/frank … ller.html)
- a READ ME file I typed up with more specific information
- configured for the LCD2004 screen.

The printer is also pretty modified with 3D printed parts for a E3Dv6 conversion, with cooling parts fan and internal filament routing.

There are lots of pictures, maybe your security settings are blocking them?

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Good stuff. I'll save this for if/when mine stops working! big_smile

So I actually got two of these 1.0 printers for $25 each, one works just fine, and the other seems to not read thermistor values from the board on the extruder, can I ask, whats the benefit of doing this mod? Does it print better?

I also seen the reptier? Whats the point of flashing that firmware? My prints seem fine on the one that works, after hours of getting the nozzle unclogged that is lol.

The main advantage is you can use third party filament. Not limited to XYZ over priced stuff. You also have better control of full calibration. But based on your post you seem to be content with just accepting what it gives you. So fine tuning may not be a need for you
So the only advantage for you would probably be freedom from over priced filament.

Thanks for the write up, very helpful during my build. How are you liking that hotend setup?

Re: Davinci 1.0a conversion to Ramps 1.4 with pics and firmware

Hi all.

New member, resurrecting an oldish thread..

Just inherited a Da vinci v1.0 pro that's a bit injured ..  so..looking to have a good fiddle with it . ;-)

Q 1  Display not  working although the machine initializes and homes all axis  ?  can a display be got somewhere ?

I have a Ramps setup in my spares box so a conversion is  a option..

Q 2  what sort of display is normally fitted , if any ?  think I've a  LCD for the ramps some where ..

thanks for any help ..
