Topic: Da Vinci 2.0 Duo extruder 2 not working properly (newbie alert!)

I recently acquired a Davinci 2.0 Duo, and have been experiencing problems right out of the box. I've worked on the issue for 3 weeks, thinking I was doing something wrong, but by process of elimination, it now appears to be a software/programming issue.

Problem is extruder 2 seems to cut out, and extruder 1 takes over, sometimes in mysterious ways.
Example A: I printed out a Fall Guy that prints in 3 parts - 2 with extruder 1 (orange in this case), and one - the face -  with extruder 2 (white). Instead of printing the face white, my printer produced a sort of glazed wafer of mainly orange with a thin white layer. Insides shown at bottom right of the picture.
Example B: A logo keyring that was supposed to impress my boss. The letters were supposed to be orange. The printer has made one layer of orange (extruder 2), and then switched back to white (extruder 1).

As you can probably guess from the above, I tried switching the filaments, which only served to mess up the chip count. They both print perfectly nice with extruder 1. See articulated slug from Thingiverse (orange) and a Silo sculpt of my dog's head (white).

My last piece of evidence: A sample piece from the printer came out perfect with both colours. So not a hardware problem...

I've checked that I have the latest versions of both XYZWare and firmware. And now I'm all out of ideas... Please help!

So what does the stl files look like. Normally you would would need two files that you merge on your printer platform in your slicer then assign one extruder to one file and the other extrude to the other file. Then both extruder will print the necessary part of each file per layer.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Thank you. Yes that is exactly what I do. To assure that it wasn't just a problem with my own models, I downloaded several others made for dual printing, and got the same results.

Sorry for going on about this. Should I try to downgrade the firmware?

UPDATE: Just in case anybody reads this, looking for a solution.
I purchased a resetter (unoriginal), and reset both cartridge chips. Now the printer works as intended.

Hi, I was just wondering which resetter you purchased, I am searching for a solution to the same problem at the moment... but I am already using a resetter

Re: Da Vinci 2.0 Duo extruder 2 not working properly (newbie alert!)

Ok. I have just solved my problem.
I have only had my Duo for a few months, after fixing the R271 heater problem it had.
I tied two colour printing at the start, but couldn't get it to work properly, so have just been printing single colour single extruder prints while getting my head around the basics of 3d printing, and on how to use the DaVinci.
I have not had any success using the second extruder at all, if I chose the second extruder for a single object print, the first extruder would act like the second extruder and print the test trail on the lefthand side, and print in colour 1.  If I tried a multicolour print, the second extruder would lay down maybe 3 layers of colour two, then the 1st extruder would take over, and print all the rest.
The demo print on the internal memory worked beautifully.
I had downloaded XYZ ware V2, as that was the latest version on XYZ wares site, and on the generated visual printing file, the two extruders should have been printing as they were told, different colours for each .stl file, but that was not happening at the printer.
I just, tonight, uninstalled XYZWareV2, and installed the older XYZware from 2015.
I have finally, for the first time had a successful 2 colour print, exactly the same .stl files, settings, and method that I tried in the newer version, but, this time it worked
I hope this helps someone who is digging through the depths of google to find out why their DaVinci Duo 2.0 wont print with the second extruder properly.
I am using Windows 10x64
