Topic: Da Vinci Mini W Vs Firmware version Vs 3rd Party Filament

Hello all,

I'm new to this community and have been going trough the different topics in this forum in order to find more information about the Da Vinci W I just picked up. I've ordered some NTAGS (both 213 and 215) in order to be able to use 3rd party filament and will begin testing this soon.

Here's a list of questions I'm hoping some of you might be able to answer:

1. Which version of the firmware version is best the refill/reuse tags? I'm currently on 2.3.9. Ideally I would stick one tag and refill it instead of throwing them away. I saw a Youtube video of someone desoldering the memory chip on the main board in order for the machine to "forget" the used tag numbers. is this still relevant?

2. Based on what I could read, I was hoping that by using Minimover with Cura, filament detection would be bypassed but it doesn't. Would a different firmware help with this?

3. I have had success printing with Cura 4.8.0 but ran out of filament and the original tag in the spool was locked somehow. Is this related to the firmware or perhaps the driver of the machine?

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

Recent firmwares won't allow you to refill a tag - they remember the ID and the last length.  If it sees one increase then it won't allow it's use.  Other people can use them once refilled though - so think about passing them on (full or empty).
You'll need to keep using new tags.

The printer will track filament usage no matter what XYZ firmware you use.

Some tags get locked when they get run down to zero.  No idea why, but if they do they may as well go in the bin as no one can use them.

Thanks for the reply! I received my first batch of tags yesterday, programmed one of them and it works.

Having trouble setting it up in Cura, do you have a working start and end Gcode routine for this model? Print head is too far from the bed compared to XYZPrint and it messes up the prints. Tried to change the Z offset parameter in Cura but it brought it too low and I almost broke the machine, had to turn it off quickly but no damage. My machine really need the code to purge the lines before printing underwise it does not print properly.

I find the XYZ slicing app adequate so don't bother with cura for this printer.
