Topic: Da Vinci Jr + Octoprint/Octopi

I have Cura working with my Da Vinci Jr on latest firmware and it works well -- no filament tracking, decent prints etc.

Now I'm tired of having my PC connected to the printer when printing, so I set up an RPi with octoprint, hoping that since Cura can communicate with it so can Octoprint.

So far no dice! When I connect the printer USB to my RPi it doesn't seem to be detected by the OS.

Has anyone had luck getting it to connect?

Re: Da Vinci Jr + Octoprint/Octopi

I swapped my SD card into a pi3 and the printer was detected:

Recv: FIRMWARE_NAME:Marlin 1.0.c (Github) SOURCE_CODE_URL:https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin PROTOCOL_VERSION:1.0 MACHINE_TYPE:Jr Pro X+ EXTRUDER_COUNT:1 UUID:cede2a2f-41a2-4748-9b12-c55c62f367ff.Cap:SJOB:1.Cap:AUTOLEVEL:0.Cap:Z_PROBE:0.Cap:LEVELING_DATA:1.Cap:BUILD_PERCENT:0.Cap:SOFTWARE_POWER:0.Cap:TOGGLE_LIGHTS:0.Cap:CASE_LIGHT_BRIGUS:0.Cap:THERMAL_PROTECTION:1ok

Then I realized my pi zero only has one active USB port, so I swapped to that and it worked.

So far so good, printing something now through Cura->Octopi!

Re: Da Vinci Jr + Octoprint/Octopi

I would go back to the Pi3. The zero has very little limited memory compered the Pi3 and will be a problem as your prints get larger and more complex.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

I've printed some very complex stuff now, large enough to fill my print bed with no issues. I think the main thing is, no camera=no issues with the pi zero.
