Topic: Power supply determining power and ground

So I’m new to wiring, and determined to figure this out on my own, it doesn’t look too difficult, but there is one part I can’t figure out and am worried about causing damage.

The wiring instructions say to take power from the female DC plug to switch 1, and ground to the PID. How do I tell which wire is positive and ground? I don’t see any colored sheathing, markings on the plug or anything else. Any help is appreciated.

Does one wire have ribs on it?  If so I believe that is negative.  Of course do verify with a voltmeter.
